Updated: Police release name of accused in Hanover homicide

Police are investigating a homicide in Hanover.

Hanover police responded to an incident on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 8:50 a.m. on 5th Street in Hanover, where they located a deceased person.

William Beckman, age 31, of Hanover, has been charged with first degree murder.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on Jan. 13.

Police said there is no threat to public safety in the town, located about 55 km northwest of Listowel.

The investigation is in its early stages and residents will notice an increased police presence.

Several police services are working together and the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service is also assisting.
