Fighting Irish sorry for ‘uncertainty’ and ‘concern’ after alleged weekend assault

Stratford Fighting Irish have released a statement after a weekend incident that resulted in team founder/GM/coach Jamie Petrie being charged with assault.

The hockey club said the organization and more specifically; Petrie, are truly sorry for the uncertainty and concern events of the past week have caused.

The Ontario Super Hockey League accepted Petrie’s resignation after the incident, which happened after a Dec. 13 game against the Elora Rocks at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

Wellington OPP have charged Petrie with assault and he is due in court in Guelph next month.

League director Bill Ryan said the OSHL is committed to providing a safe environment for all of its players, staff, and fans.

Petrie and Ryan founded the league during the pandemic.

The statement said that as an organization the Fighting Irish will continue to provide excellent hockey and a great environment at the Allman Arena for all their games.

The Fighting Irish statement asks fans to continue to be part of the Irish family and they “look forward to seeing everyone at the arena this Saturday.”

Wellington OPP ask anyone with information regarding the alleged assault to contact them, or Crime Stoppers.
