Music series starts this weekend with Festival City Big Band

Avondale United Church’s 2025 music series starts Saturday with the Festival City Big Band.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for, Swing Into The New Year.

Paul Harris, a member of Avondale’s Music Series team, explains that the music of big band transcends generations.

“80 years later, the music is still alive and people still love it.”

The concert allows you to sit and enjoy the swing’n sounds of the Festival City Big Band with vocalists Cathy Whelan and Chris Adair.

There will also be a designated dance floor, so bring your dancing shoes.

The local 17-piece band is celebrating its’ 30th anniversary, with several original members still performing.

Funds raised from the church’s music series is used for its ministries – funding community meals and its food shelf, and donating to the Connection Centre and Emily Murphy Centre.

Cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
