Who are the top 50 Stratford Warriors of all time?

A local group of hockey minds were tasked with compiling a list of the greatest 50 players to suit up for the Stratford Warriors.

Les Vaters, of the Warriors’ broadcast team, told MyStratfordNow that the list was a good compliment to the junior B team’s 50th season celebrations.

Vaters said there were hundreds upon hundreds of players to review, and narrowing the list down was a tough task, given all of the talent that has played for the Warriors, known as the Cullitons for a number of years.

“We weren’t sure how we were going to do it, we thought about a fan vote,” Vaters said.

Ultimately, a committee of nine people was formed. Five of them were given a decade each to try and find 15 players from that time period.

Vaters said some decades included championship teams and that time period could have provided more players.

Sixteen players scored 200 points or more with the club.

Just one player hit the 300 point mark.

Some went on to have major success, after a shorter stop in Stratford.

“We are trying to take that into factor, too, because we have had a lot of NHL players come through that might have only been here for a year because they were just that good and moved on.”

There was plenty of constructive arguments as the group worked towards 50.

Vaters said the final list of 50 will be announced Feb. 10 on a local hockey podcast – Armchair Chirpers. It will be broadcast live from the Allman Arena and shown on YouTube.
