New hybrid-electric buses integrated into Stratford transit fleet

There is much ado about transit these days in the Festival City.

Two hybrid-electric buses have been integrated into the existing fleet.

Stratford Transit Manager Mike Mousley told MyStratfordNow the plan is to go fully electric.

“It will probably take 15 to 18 years to go from our fossil fuel fleet to fully electric.”

A consultant’s study said going fully electric is doable and the city has an application into the Zero Emissions Transit Fund (ZETF) for $25 million in funding, and are waiting for stamps of approval to continue to move forward.

New diesel buses cost about $700,000 while hybrid-electric buses are $1.2 million and fully electric buses, at current prices, run at about $1.6 million not including all of the charging and battery storage infrastructure.
