Severe winter damage has forced the The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth to rebuild outdoor dog runs and infrastructure in Stratford.
Community Program Supervisor Cree Toner says repairs have been made but they came at significant cost.
“Insurance, thankfully, was able to cover part of it but we were still left facing about a $10,000 shortfall…we are (turning) to members of the community to look and recoup a little bit of that cost so we can continue really good care for animals.”
Heavy snow damaged the facility’s roof, exhaust system and exterior ductwork.
Outdoor dog runs, what the organization calls a critical space where dogs can enjoy time outdoors, was left unsafe and unusable.
CEO Victoria Baby said the space is vital to the physical and mental health of dogs while they wait to find loving homes.
