Whaling, Eugene

Eugene Edward Whaling, age 72, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on January 13, 2014. He was born in Ellice Township, son of the late James and Iva Whaling. Beloved husband for 47 years of Mary (Power). Loving father of Sharon Shamblaw and husband Larry and Shelley McKichan (deceased). Grandfather of Amanda, Brandon (Samantha) and Morgan Shamblaw, Courtney and Cameron McKichan and their father Michael McKichan. Dear brother of Irene Savile, Ruth Mueller (Jack), Norma Mark, Margaret Reiger (Gordon), Leonard Whaling (Sandy), John Whaling (Pat). Also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barb Whaling, Moses Power (Genny), Joan Mezenberg (Gerry), Leo Power (Lucia), Ernest Power (Loretta), Edna Brake and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and daughter he was predeceased by brothers Howard, Gordon and James Whaling, by brothers-in-law Ray Savile, Ted Mark and Gary Brake and by a sister-in-law Cecilia Murphy. Eugene worked in maintenance with the Festival Inn for several years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Kilroy Council 1431, Stratford. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, January 16th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester – Celebrant. In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Restoration Fund or the charity of one’s choice through the funeral home.
