Stratford mayor says warranty program letters are legitimate

Letters to homeowners offering warranties, claiming the company is working with the City of Stratford to offer coverage, are indeed legitimate, says the mayor of Stratford.

Martin Ritsma said residents have expressed concerns after receiving mailers from Service Line Warranties of Canada for water and sewer/septic line coverage.

“This is a warranty that is provided for piping that comes from the curb into your house. It’s not a scam. It’s a program that’s been in place.”

Ritsma said there was a perception from some that it is a bogus reach-out.

The letter, which includes the City of Stratford logo, states that homeowners are responsible for repairs for buried sewer/septic lines on their property, and offers payment plans for coverage.

Ritsma said the city endorses working with SLWC, as have many other municipalities.

The mayor added that individuals can reach out to the city, with inquiries, and should also check with their own insurance provider.

“There might be insurance that they can provide.”

More information is available on the city’s website.
