Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae said a provincial funding initiative announced on Friday will create 30 jobs and protect 530 more.
Rae said $2.2 million will go to Aisin Canada Inc. in Stratford, through the Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF).
“This investment, by both Aisin and the government of Ontario, will strengthen our local manufacturing community and solidifies our government’s commitment to protect Ontario and our communities,” Rae said at the announcement, held at Aisin’s facility.
Aisin Canada will invest $11.1 million to purchase new equipment to support the Lexus NX panoramic sunroof production program from Toyota, slated to start production in December, 2026.
Rae said the project will diversify existing products and reshore panoramic sunroof production from Japan to Ontario.
Wayne Robert, President of Aisin Canada Inc., said funding is a critical step to allow Aisin to localize production currently based in Japan and ensure economic stability in Stratford.
“We are not only preventing potential layoffs but also creating new job opportunities for our community…despite the challenges posed by current tariff threats, Aisin remains committed to investing in the Stratford plant.”
The OTTF is part of the province’s nearly $30 billion commitment to tariff relief, which it said will support a plan to protect workers and businesses from economic uncertainty and build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.
The OTTF has received more than 140 applications.
