Next Generation 9-1-1 starts for St. Marys FD

St. Marys Fire Department has launched Next Generation 9-1-1, a partnership with Owen Sound Police Service.

The fire department says NG9-1-1 marks a significant milestone in the local fire department’s commitment to strengthening public safety and emergency response.

Dialing 9-1-1 remains unchanged, however, new technology will provide faster and more reliable help, according to the FD.

Upgraded features include more accurate caller location and phone number information, enhanced cybersecurity and a future ability to support real-time text messaging.

The CRTC has mandated all service providers and primary public safety answering points must transition to NG9-1-1.
