Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae is keeping an eye out for a few key things in this year’s budget.
Rae told MyStratfordNow that includes investments to local education and healthcare.
The budget will be delivered by Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy on Thursday.
Premier Doug Ford said the theme is protecting the economy.
Rae said they’re approaching $100 billion annually in funding for the healthcare system.
“The Minister of Health and Minister of Finance recently announced an expansion of our primary care initiative, it’s going to approach $3.2 billion and an additional $300 million in that program, and that’s to ensure everyone who wants access to a primary care provider is able to attain that access,” said Rae.
“Really hopeful to see that continued investment, as well as more investment in infrastructure, and really focusing on how we can continue to support our small businesses and medium-sized businesses given the current economic impact.”
He said higher gas prices, inflation, interest rates and the tariff war with the U.S. are still part of calculations.
To his understanding, Rae said a $6.4 billion investment to universities and colleges to offer in-demand skills for healthcare, technology and agriculture will be highlighted in the budget, as well as support for rural schools.
Rae and other MPPs recently returned to Queen Parks after an extended winter break.
From speaking to constituents, local businesses and non-profits in the riding during the break, Rae said the two big concerns were affordability and energy needs.
