Local transit in Perth and Wellington counties is getting $882,866 in Gas Tax funding from the provincial government.
Stratford will receive most of the funding with $513,030, while St. Marys gets $163,485.
North Perth will receive $80,090, Perth East $73,121 and West Perth $53,140.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae said in a media release that funding will help expand hours, increase routes, buy new vehicles and improve accessibility.
Funding comes from the gas tax program. According to Rural Ontario Institute, the program aims to increase municipal transit ridership by expanding public transportation infrastructure and levels of service.
The institute said the program has been running since 2004.
Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma said he knows how important the transit system is for residents to get to work, school, appointments and for other needs.
