UTRCA expects waterways to rise as wet weather approaches

Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is monitoring a moisture-packed weather system expected to keep area waterways elevated.

The conservation authority says the weather system may bring nearly 75 mm of rain by Friday, but they do not expect serious flooding.

Officials expect much of the rain will run off into local water bodies, raising water levels as the week continues.

Environment Canada is forecasting slight chances of rain daily through Friday in Stratford this week, with 5 to 10 mm of rain expected each day.

Flood control measures will be operating at Wildwood, Pittock and Fanshawe conservation areas to reduce downstream flooding.

Officials remind the public to use extreme caution near all local waterways as stream banks may be slippery and unstable. Keep children and pets away and do not take shelter along riverbanks or low-lying areas prone to flooding.
