Walk for Parkinson’s returns to Upper Queens Park

It’s a day to support people living with Parkinson’s disease in Stratford.

Walk for Parkinson’s is returning Sept. 12 to Upper Queens Park.

The walk raises awareness and funds for those affected in both the Festival City and southwestern Ontario.

Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario member Barb Myers told MyStratfordNow there’s some misconceptions regarding the disease.

“Everyone thinks Parkinson’s is a tremor, but there are so many other ways of it. My uncle has just been diagnosed and he’s had this shuffly walk for the last few years that you’d think ‘I’m getting old and I have a shuffly walk’.”

She said symptoms include stiffness, rigidity, mood, depression, lousy sleep, constipation, trouble swallowing and changes in the voice.

The walk will include a silent auction and music.

Registration is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 10:30 a.m.
