Residential tax increase lower than expected

The residential tax in Stratford is going up, but not as much as first thought.

The increase was pegged at 1.3% at Monday’s city council meeting.

That averages out to about $45 dollars more per tax bill.

Council had been expecting an increase of 1.9%.

A decrease in the education portion of the property tax, which is determined by the province, is behind the lower than expected increase.
