Murray, Ruby

Ruby Evelyn Murray passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Stratford General Hospital at the age of 89.  She was born on April 21, 1925 in Downie Township on Glenvenue Farm (the present home of Erie St. soccer fields) daughter of the late Lewis and Hazel (Thistle) Cornish.  She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Bast (Dale) and her son, Brian Murray (Lisa), grandchildren Richard Bast (Liz), Darien and Payton Murray, a brother Ray Cornish (Ruth) and a brother-in-law Edward Russell.  She was predeceased in 1971 by her husband, Glenn Murray whom she married on March 19, 1955 in Knox Presbyterian Church, Stratford, where they were both life members.  They were in the same class at S.S. No. 5, Downie and met again at the school’s centennial celebration.  She was also predeceased by sisters, Kathleen Cardwell, Jean Lawrence and Louise Russell, brother Kenneth Cornish (Gladys) and one brother in infancy and by sisters-in-law, Beth Webb and Helen Dunning, brothers-in-law, Lester Cardwell, Doug Lawrence, Jack Murray, Cyril Webb and Alan Dunning.  Ruby had many friends over the years at Knox Church and had been a member of the Friendship Club, a Charter member of the Mary and Martha W.M.S. and volunteered at the Thrift Shop.  She also volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary.  Ruby valued the many friends she made at the Municipal Golf Club, Tai-chi Society, the social Bridge Club at the Kiwanis Senior Centre and the exercise classes she attended. Ruby attended Stratford Central Secondary School and worked at the London Life Insurance Co. in London, Stratford and Toronto.  After Glenn’s death, she worked in the office at Sinclair Pharmacy in Stratford until her retirement in 1993.  Lynn and Brian wish to thank Dr. Eric Thomas for his excellent care of their Mom over the past several years.  Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Friday, December 12 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.  Rev.
