Anderson, Joan

Joan Louise Anderson (nee Templin; b. August 17, 1930 – January 10, 2015).

Our beloved mother, Joan Anderson, passed quietly in our presence, in the compassionate care of the Stratford General Hospital.  A lifelong resident of Stratford, Joan was pre-deceased by her parents, Samuel and Mabel Templin (nee Spencer) and by her two much-loved stepfathers, Frank Scott and Keith Comba, as well as many aunts and uncles she helped care for in old age.  Joan was also pre-deceased by her in-laws, William and Grace Anderson. Cherished wife of the late Gordon Rutherford Anderson (d.1988), also a lifelong Stratford resident.  Best possible mother and friend to Cheryl Anderson (Toronto) and Bruce Anderson and his wife Michele (South Africa).  Dear friend and sister-in-law of Ken and Islay Anderson (Cambridge) and Bill and Donna Anderson (London).  Joan is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins and their respective families, mostly here in Ontario. Joan was a public school teacher (Juliet School) in the 1970s and early 1980s. She served as President of the Retired Teachers of Ontario – Perth Unit (1996-1998), a member of various Boards at St. John’s United Church and a volunteer of many years’ standing with the Stratford General Hospital and Canadian Blood Services.  Joan’s many passions included world travel and genealogy, the latter which brought together many family members throughout Ontario and around the world.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Chartwell Anne Hathaway Residence (Stratford) for providing Mom with a caring home in the last few years. Thanks also to Joan’s friends throughout Stratford – we are humbled by the very many people who have had played a supporting role in Mom’s long and rich life.  Rest in peace, Mom – we will love you forever. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, January 16, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Michelle Down will officiate. Interment in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made the Stratford General Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to St. John’s United Church through the funeral home. 519.271.7411  www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
