Carruthers, Velma

Velma Fern Elizabeth Carruthers, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her residence on Friday March 27, 2015. Born in Listowel, daughter of the late Ewart and Hazel (Gibb) Duncan. Velma will be fondly remembered by Walter Carruthers. Loving mother of Robert, Lois, Marie, Donald, Bonnie and Larry and family friend Roland Fournier all of Stratford. Grandma will be missed by Melissa, Amy, Elizabeth, Sabrina, Jamie, Tyler, Krista, Tiffany and Felicity along with her great grandchildren; Taylor, Rylee, Caden, Tanner, Quentin, Tamara, Brittany, Cassandra, Dylan, Erica, Maelie also great great-grandson Tommy. Velma will be remembered by her siblings; Doreen Sequin, Marlene (Hartley) McHarg, Leone Duncan, Doris (David) Illman, Joyce (Robert) Hansen, Ross (Lois) Duncan and Brian Duncan also brothers-in-law Ken O’Grady and Pete Geertsma.  Besides her parents, Velma was predeceased by her son Calvin (1948), sisters, Alma and Marjorie, brothers, Colin and Glenn and brothers-in-law Gilbert Sequin and Bill Stacey. Friends and relatives may call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday March 31, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society Huron-Perth or the Heart and Stroke Foundation Huron Perth Oxford through the funeral home.
