John William “Bill” Broughton passed away peacefully on April 27, 2015 at Stratford General Hospital in his 93rd year. Born August 5, 1922, he was the son of the late John Broughton and the former Emily Rose Lee. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Kitty) Ada Allsopp whom he met in England and later married at Central United Church in Stratford, on June 21, 1947. He will be fondly remembered by his son Keith Broughton and wife Kat Goodale of Toronto, and brother-in-law Norman Anthony of Stratford. Bill spent most of his school years in Milverton. He joined the Highland Light Infantry in 1940 and served overseas, participating in the Normandy Landing on June 6, 1944. Bill was an executive member of the Perth Veterans Association and an associate member of the 4 R.C.R. Stratford Garrison. He joined the Perth Regiment Militia in 1950 as a Corporal and retired in 1964 as the last Regimental Sergeant Major. Bill was employed by several businesses in Stratford including Superior Propane and Perth Metal Industries for over 50 years. He enjoyed playing darts with his comrades and friends at the Stratford Armoury. Bill is also predeceased by his sisters Rose Marie Anthony, Lillian Lee, Kathy Degray and Peggy Donohue. A memorial service in Bill’s memory will be held at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert St., Stratford, on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 11am. Interment in Avondale Cemetery to follow.
