City council defers decision on community mailbox agreement

Stratford City Council is holding off on an agreement regarding community mailboxes.

At Tuesday night’s meeting it was revealed that the City of Stratford has had successful negotiations with Canada Post over where the boxes will be installed.

However the crown corporation only agreed to pay the city $50 per box as opposed to the original $200 per box request.  Canada Post has made it clear they believe they have the power to put the boxes wherever they want if the agreement isn’t passed.

Councillor Bonnie Henderson suggested they wait to see what happens in Hamilton.  That city is in a legal scuffle with Canada Post over the installation of boxes.

Stratford council voted to defer the motion.
