It is with sadness that we announce the quiet, peaceful passing of June Wheal on October 10, 2015 at the age of 83, surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. Born on June 30, 1932, June was the daughter of the late Kathleen Barclay. She joins her beloved husband Robert Oliver Wheal, who predeceased her on December 8, 2013. She leaves behind her sons Mike and Tom (Lorraine), grandchildren Eric (Jackie), Jen (Jason), Erin and Alex (Nell); great-grandchildren Connor, Aiden, Ally, Katie and Maddie and her sister Marlene Irving of Innisfil, Ontario. Bob pursued June from when he was fourteen years old, and it didn’t take her long to succumb to his charm and devotion. Married for 61 wonderful years, June and Bob were the happiest when their family was with them. Immensely proud of everyone, the walls of their home were adorned with countless pictures of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all of their achievements were detailed in many scrapbooks. A woman of small stature with a twinkle in her eye and a hearty laugh, June was never short of an opinion, and never backed down. She had a competitive streak and did not like to lose at cards, and was sometimes even cutthroat in her quest to take her opponents’ pennies or loonies. No one was spared – not even her great-grandchildren. Anyone who knew June also knew how much she loved to talk, whether it was for hours on the phone or to people she met while out shopping. On more than one occasion, frustrated by the endless busy signal on the phone, Mike or Tom would simply drive over to her home if they needed to speak with her. June and Bob were inseparable. Whether it was going out for their daily errands (and as June would tell you – most importantly for their Tim Hortons’ coffee fix), or the many summers they spent in Bayfield at their trailer where their campfires brought many together to laugh under the stars, they could not live without each other. The last two years without Bob were very difficult for June and she missed him terribly. Their love story is not easily replicated and we take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited as they yearned to be. A chapter of our family’s history has closed, but June and Bob ensured that we have many wonderful stories to tell.  At June’s request, there will be a private visitation and service for family only.
