Anna Frieda Wessel (Kastrau) – Passed away peacefully in her 108th year with her family at her side. Born January 10, 1908 in Brattian, West Preussen, Germany to Edward and Berta Kastrau. Predeceased by her husband Otto of 69 years; by sister Marta; by brothers Fritz and Wilhelm and also by her daughter Rosemarie. Anny will be missed by her son Horst and wife Karin of Waterloo; grandchildren Lilli-Ann Wessel and Mona Lisa Wessel of Waterloo; Malcolm McFarlane and wife Wendy of Tavistock, Bonny Walters and husband Russ of Michigan; great grandchildren Daniel and Jennifer McFarlane; nephew Manfred Kastrau and wife Else of Hamilton; and many relatives in Germany. Anny came to Canada in 1954 with her children and joined her husband, a longtime employee of FAG, in Stratford. Anny worked as a seamstress for many years and managed several rooming houses. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, reading, writing poetry and tending to her large garden. She also enjoyed spending time at the cottage. Anny was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Parkwood Mennonite LTC Home in Waterloo for their exceptional care of Anny over the years. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Jeff Laustsen will officiate. Interment at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford followed by reception at the funeral home.
