Ila Irma Etta Hurley passed away suddenly at her Knollcrest Lodge residence on Friday, March 21, 2014. Ila was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Lillian Wilson (nee Coxon) and had four older siblings – Margaret (Red Deer, AB), Olive (Victoria, BC and latterly, Stratford), Doreen (Stratford) and George (Milverton). Her father, Ernest Wilson, died before Ila was born; yet, her mother was able to hold the family together while managing the family farm during the depression years before finally moving with her three younger children back to Ontario where she farmed near Milverton, Ontario. Ila attended business school and worked at British Mortgage & Trust until her marriage to Francis (Frank ‘Boat’) Willard Hurley, her partner of 39 years, until his death. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and bridge and remained very close to her family. She was a member of Central United Church. Her daughter, Colleen; son-in-law, David; and grandchildren, Tara and Kyle, all of Toronto, will sadly miss Granny. Ila’s family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Knollcrest Lodge and her doctor, along with those friends and relatives, both present and deceased, who always had Ila’s best interests at heart. A Memorial Service will be held in Stratford at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert St., Stratford, on Tuesday, March 25th at 2 pm. All who want to celebrate and remember Ila are welcome. Interment will later occur at Parklawn Cemetery, Toronto, where her granddaughter, Meghan Bernadette, rests. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton, Ontario or a charity of your choice through the funeral home at 519-271-5062. www.jarfh.com
