Delea, Catherine

Catherine Anne (Grant) Delea passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side, on June 29, 2016 in London Victoria Hospital in her 70th year. Survived by her best buddy and husband Harry Delea. Devoted mother of Jennifer Delea McCully and husband James McCully and Emily Delea. Proud grandmother of Nicholas and Cameron McCully and Owen Lansdowne. Daughter of the late Malcolm (Mike) John and Annie May Grant. Loving sister of Linda Doholis, Pat Avey, (Irene Marshall deceased) and Michael Grant. Catherine worked for the Arthritis Society for 15 plus years. She helped start and was the first president of the Bluebird Club. In 1988 Harry and Catherine opened H.H. Delea & Co. where they worked side by side for over 17 years. When the stairs at the store became an issue she started to see sales representatives out of their home. Catherine was a remarkable woman; she never let the crippling disease Rheumatoid Arthritis stop her. She decided what she wanted and went for it. Her zest for life inspired all that knew her. Catherine’s sense of style and funky hair was a good reminder that embracing one self and being positive can be done no matter what. She understood that happiness is a choice. She focused on the positive aspects of her life. Catherine loved her family, drinking tea, music, dancing, collecting art and entertaining family and friends, where she cooked delectable dishes and set a beautiful table. It was understood that the little things make life wonderful. Her big heart, bright light and effervescent way of being, touched everyone. Catherine was a great friend, listener, and had the ability to brighten and widen the horizons of others. She will be sadly missed. Friends and relatives may call at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert Street, Stratford on Thursday, July 7 from 6-9 p.m. as well as on Friday July 8, at 10 a.m. until the time of the celebration of Catherine’s life which will take place at 11a.m. in the funeral home with reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada or a charity of one’s choice through the funeral home by calling 519-271-5062.
