Save VIA pushing for GO Trains to Stratford

Baden may soon be getting a GO Train layover station.

The Wynne Government is moving forward with plans to bring full day two-way train service from the Kitchener region to the GTA.

This will require the province to spend millions of dollars on infrastructure which has left Chris West confused about the decision.

The St Marys business man and passenger rail advocate says the infrastructure to support such a system already exists in Stratford.

West also says the current proposal would cut into prime agricultural land.

However, the group is still focused on VIA Rail.

West says they are reaching out to the federal MPs who seem to be slowly coming on board.

Save VIA began when federal cuts cancelled VIA Trains 86 and 89 from Stratford to Toronto.

West says the group will keep on going and they have something special coming up in June.

The Emm Gryner concert to Save VIA will be held on Saturday, June 7th in the St Marys Town Hall.

The proceeds will go to the Save VIA committee.

West encourages everyone to write letters about their stories and experiences on the trains then mail them to your local MP.

He says this will make a difference in the fight to restore passenger rail service and it won’t cost you anything.
