OPP taking R.I.D.E. program to snowmobile trails

The Perth County OPP says it’ll be doing R.I.D.E. checks on area snowmobile trails. The checks are part of their efforts to deter impaired driving.

The OPP is also reminding snowmobilers about some of the laws surrounding the winter activity. You have to carry your licence or operator’s card while out snowmobiling and you have to have the proper papers, like proof of registration and insurance.

Snowmobiles can’t be driven along the serviced part of a road, including the shoulder, except to cross it at a right angle. Just like if you were in a car you must stop for the police if they signal you.

You also can’t ride on private property without the landowner’s permission. You also need a properly fitting helmet.
