Early detection key to beating colon cancer

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

The South West Regional Cancer Program says with early detection 90 per cent of colon cancer cases can be cured. Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in Ontario and causes the second most number of cancer deaths.

The South West Regional Cancer Program says people between the ages of 50 and 74 should get checked for colon cancer every two years using a fecal occult blood test. It’s a painless, take-home test.

You can get a fecal occult blood test through your doctor, Telehealth Ontario by calling 1-866-828-9213, pharmacies, or mobile screening coaches.  You can find more information at this website.
