Marie Leis

Marie Leis – died at Nithview Community on Monday October 16, 2017 in her 97th year.  Born in Wellesley Township to Joe R. and Mary Erb.  She was a life partner in dairy farming with her late husband Gordon in Perth County where they raised their family, Glennis and Mark Yantzi, James and Rosella, Murray and Marilyn, Merlin and Angie, Paul and Charlene and Gloria and Dale Freeman.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Omer and Erma Leis and many nieces and nephews.  She was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her sister Frieda and John Erb, and brothers Ervin and Erma and Joe and Mabel.  Also predeceased by in-laws Leroy and Vera Leis and Marion Bender Leis.

Marie had an amazing capacity to remember names and faces of those she met throughout her lifetime even in these later years with dementia.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and for some years worked as a Red Cross Homemaker.

Marie was a lifelong member of Maple View Mennonite Church in Wellesley Township where a private family burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.   Memorial visitation will be held at Maple View Mennonite Church, 5074 Deborah Glaister Line on Saturday October 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. where the memorial service will be held on Sunday October 29, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Brent Kipfer officiating.
