Chris West responds to latest VIA Rail controversy

The federal government is gearing up to hire a new president of VIA Rail.

Federal cabinet ministers have expressed their unhappiness with the current head Steve del Bosco.

The latest problem had to do with malfunctions at rail crossings and the crown corporation’s response.

Chris West with the local group Save VIA shares many of the government’s frustrations but says changing the leadership won’t do anything if there isn’t more money.

He says the deterioration of passenger rail service has to do with a lack of federal funding.

Save VIA started locally after VIA Rail terminated Trains 86 and 89 to Toronto.
