Stratford left in the dark during massive power outage

The lights are back on now after Stratford was left in the dark for around two hours.

Over 4000 Hydro One customers had their power go out around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday with things staying that way until 7:30 a.m. while crews worked to get the lights back on.

Several schools around the city were delayed in opening.

Festival Hydro President Ysni Semsedini says it all began when an animal made contact at the Devon Street Transformer Station which lead to the perfect storm.

“Hydro One had one of the transmission lines that run through Stratford down for maintenance and then the other one there were crews working in the area so they had what we call a block on that transmission line meaning that if a fault happens that line can’t repost back in.”

Semsedini adds some areas around Stratford including Shakespeare were also impacted by the outage.
