Stratford celebrated some of it’s best in the sports world over the weekend.
The Stratford Sports Wall of Fame ceremony was held Saturday night, the wall recognizes individuals and teams whose athletic abilities have brought fame to themselves and Stratford and also individuals whose interest and work in sports has resulted in a climate which benefited athletes and athletics with the wall located at the Stratford Rotary Complex.
Julie Wilkinson, a two time Olympic swimmer from Stratford and also a winner of three medals at the Commonwealth Games, was inducted in the athlete category.
She says she got her feet wet at a young age.
“My mom put me in swimming before I could walk because she wanted to make sure I was safe in the water and it kind of just went from there, once I realized I was kind of good at it and I had the opportunity to bring home trophies that’s when I really fell in love with it because I’m pretty competitive.”
Also inducted were Basil J. Schooley in the Builder Category and the 1986 to 1989 Stratford Hilliers Baseball Teams in the Team Category.
