New group created to oversee early stages of the Grand Trunk Community Hub planning

The ball has started to roll when it comes to the future of the Grand Trunk Community Hub.

At their meeting Monday night, Stratford Council voted to endorse the short term implementation plan for the property which includes the creation of a Grand Trunk Community Hub Advisory Group.

The group will be made up of six members of the Stratford Lakeside Active Adults Association, who will be appointed by the association, and will advise Stratford Chief Administrative Officer Rob Horne who will be the chair the group.

The group will also include city staff including the Director of Community Services.

Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson says the group will look at the space the seniors will require at the hub before then looking at other partnerships as part of phase one of the project.

“They were the ones that were displaced by the Tom Patterson renewal project so it is something that we wanted to signal that they are a priority, that we wanted to get their needs out first and use that as a base for how to plan the facility.”

Council also voted at the meeting to award the contract for the Cooper Parking Lot expansion to Steve Smith Construction Corporation for $127 thousand.
