Stratford appears to be becoming a safer city, according to Statistics Canada

It appears Stratford is becoming a safer city to live in.

According to the Crime Severity Index released by Stats Can Monday Stratford jumped dramatically down the ranks for violent crimes to 168th compared to 56th the year before.

The index measures all police reported crimes along with the severity of the offences for cities with a population over 10,000 people.

Acting Chief of Police for the Stratford Police Gerry Foster says the numbers should be taken as positive.

“Overall I’m very happy that the City of Stratford is seeing that reduction in violent crime, I believe that that is a good news story for both the community and the Stratford Police Service, I’m very happy to see these numbers.”

As for non-violent crimes, we ranked 42nd in 2016 and dropped to 63rd this year.
