UPDATED: Police say house explosion in Kitchener was a homicide

Police say a deadly house explosion that killed one woman in Kitchener is suspicious.

They say 58-year-old Edra Haan was killed in the explosion that happened at a home in the Forest Heights neighborhood Wednesday morning.

CTV News Kitchener reports the woman lived at the home with her husband Udo Haan who was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital with critical injuries.

According to neighbors, the couple were friendly and lived in the home for around 25 years.

The Coroner’s Office has determined that the death was a homicide.

Over thirty firefighters were on scene at the house where the explosion happened as well as the two neighboring homes.

Sixteen homes have been evacuated since then and the Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the cause and origin of the explosion.

Waterloo Regional Police are asking anyone who knows anything about what happened to contact them.
