The City of Stratford calls it another significant court decision when it comes to the future of the Cooper Block.
In a press release sent out Tuesday morning, the city says the Court of Appeal for Ontario, in a unanimous decision, is dismissing a third challenge made by previous owner Lawrence Ryan over the site.
They say the decision means that the issue can now be brought to a final conclusion as a number of claims for damages against the city, made by Ryan, have now been dismissed.
Ryan reached out to the My Stratford Now Newsroom on Wednesday afternoon with a response and in an email says that the impact of the latest court decision has been “overstated.”
He says a lengthy court process remains.
He adds that the city has done several things, including “continuing to refuse to provide their documents” which has caused a delay in the start of the process to determine a decision on the appeal he made on the awarding of costs in favour of the city.
The city says it continues to own the property and it’s advancing its plans for the redevelopment of the site.
