Two tombstones discovered during construction in downtown Stratford

Just before Halloween, a discovery has been made in Stratford.

Police say two headstones were discovered Wednesday during construction within the basement of a building in downtown Stratford.

Numerous reports say that building is the Bradshaw Building.

According to police, they were called to the scene to investigate shortly after the tombstones were discovered and from the inscriptions on the headstones, they say it appears that they date back to approximately 1865.

Of further interest, they say a large concrete slab was also found buried in the same area as the headstones, however, they say the significance of the slab is still unknown.

They say that at this time, it’s unclear whether the area is a burial site or if the headstones were just discarded there.

The Stratford Police say they will continue to monitor the excavation process to determine if any further investigation is required.

Anyone who knows anything about the discovery is asked to call the police.
