POLICE: Man faces weapons related charges after incidents in St.Marys

A 41-year-old St.Marys man faces charges after police say he was seen with a gun in public.

Police say they were called to the Foodland in St.Marys around 7:30 Tuesday night after a man was seen holding a rifle with a scope on it.

They the man was seen swearing in the store and then witnesses say he left the store as he was waving the rifle around.

Officers found the man on Jones Street, still holding the gun, but he then ran away and hid behind buildings in the area.

Several other officers were called in and they searched for the man before finding him around 7:44 p.m.

They say he was arrested but didn’t have the gun with him at that point, police searched the area and later found the gun which turned out to be a pellet rifle with a scope.

The man faces several charges including careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He has a bail hearing scheduled for today Wednesday.
