Business As Usual At General Motors Plant in Ingersoll

The General Motors plant in Ingersoll won’t be shutting its doors like the one in Oshawa.

With the news coming Monday that GM plans to shutter their plant in Oshawa and stop building vehicles there as of December next year, officials at the Cami plant in Ingersoll say they will not be impacted and they will keep on producing the Equinox vehicle as per usual.

However, the workers at the plant are keeping those in Oshawa and at four others in the United States slated to be closed in their thoughts.

Plant Chair of Union Local 88 at Cami, Mike Van Boekel, says the future looks good for his plant.

“Right now we’re three full shifts, 40 hours a week, so we’re doing good, we have about 21-hundred people and everybody’s working 40 hours a week so that parts good, we seem to lead GM in every matrix from quality, uptime, leanest plant and everything else.”

Van Boekel adds his plant doesn’t share any work on the vehicles they make with the plant in Oshawa, unlike in the past when they did.
