Waterloo man faces impaired driving charge after police say he collided with a tree

A 30-year-old Waterloo man faces an impaired driving charge after police say he collided with a tree in Stratford.

Just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, police say they were called by a witness who reported a vehicle going off the road and hitting a tree in the Mornington Street and Delamere Avenue area.

Police say they arrived on scene and found a man in the driver’s seat with a bottle of alcohol between his legs.

They say the witness also reported that, after hitting the tree, he got out of the car and tried to put the tree back in the ground before getting back into his vehicle.

The man was brought to police headquarters where they say he provided two breath samples that showed he had over five times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

He is due in court on January Second.
