Perth County obesity rates higher than average

Perth County is getting fat!

New figures released last week says local residents are losing the battle of the bulge.

Dr. Miriam Klassen says we’re even lagging behind the rest of the country.

Dr. Klassen says it’s hard to pinpoint any single reason for this trend but she suspects transportation does play a role.

Obesity rates in Perth County are 33.4 per cent compared to the national average that’s just under 25 per cent.

Dr. Klassen wsays this will have a serious impact on life expectancy especially for young people.

Dr. Klassen with the Perth District Health Unit says obese infants tend to remain obese their whole life.

She says more physical activity and better food choices are needed for you to stay in shape.
