Stratford City Council approves tax rates for 2019

We now have a better idea of around how much taxes will be going up in Stratford.

At their regular meeting Tuesday night, Stratford City Council voted to pass a by-law setting the tax ratios and tax rates for 2019.

With the education residential tax rate decreasing slightly year over year, officials say it reduces the overall tax impact for those in the area.

For a single family detached home assessed at $298,634, the average municipal tax increase is 3.16 per cent which is lowered to 2.52 per cent with the education rate factored in.

That means the homeowner will pay around $100 more in taxes this year.

Municipal and education tax rates are blended to determine a property owner’s total taxes.

The average increase for a commercial class property works out to around $910 while industrial class properties are looking at an increase of around $477.
