PDHU urging people to protect themselves against West Nile and Lyme disease

While you’re enjoying the summer weather the Perth District Health Unit says it’s important to protect yourself against insect bites.

They can spread disease.

The West Nile and Eastern Equine Encephalitis viruses can be spread through mosquito bites and you can get Lyme disease from blacklegged tick bites.

The PDHU says getting rid of standing water around your home once a week and using bug repellent that contains DEET can reduce your risk.

More tips on how to prevent insect-borne illness can be found at the PDHU’s website.
