Three-hundred sows saved in large barn fire near Tavistock

A good learning experience to help prevent future barn fires.

That’s what firefighters are calling a massive barn fire near Tavistock Wednesday morning that caused around $2-million in damage but that saw 300 sows saved.

Just before 5 a.m., first responders were called out to the blaze at a farm on Maplewood Sideroad with crews discovering a fully engulfed barn on arrival.

Firefighters were able to save another barn on the property which housed the sows.

They say there were some animal casualties but that the number could have been much higher.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to follow up on the blaze.
