BREAKING: Stratford man charged with attempted murder after hit-and-run

A 29-year-old Stratford man faces charges including two counts of attempted murder after a hit-and-run in the city.

Just before 10 o’clock last Thursday night, first responders were called out to the 7-Eleven store on Erie Street after a hit and run behind the store.

Police say a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman had crossed paths with 29-year-old Daniel Hamm inside the store and when they walked out they saw him sitting in a black pickup truck.

The victims walked behind the store when police say the truck turned the corner of the building and sped up as it approached them.

The woman was able to get out of the way but the man was hit and critically injured, the truck then left the scene.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene and he was taken to Stratford General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and then airlifted to hospital in London where he remains in critical, but stable, condition.

He is expected to survive his injuries.

The accused was identified through a surveillance photo police sent out on twitter and he was arrested the next morning.

He was released from custody after a bail hearing Monday and will be back in court in the near future.

There are a number of court-imposed conditions placed on the accused, according to police.
