Mitchel, Barbara

Barbara Mitchell, age 90, formerly of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich on May 22, 2020. Born in Stratford, daughter of the late Edgar and Evelyn (Willows) Babb. Barb lived in Carlingford before moving to Stratford in 1985. She worked at the Perth District Health Unit for 19 years and was a former member of Central United Church.

Barbara Mitchell had an infectious spirit and a lust for life. She cherished time spent connecting with her family and friends. She loved to dance, skate, ski, and even bowl – yes, bowl! Not only did she have a sense of humour, she actively made those around her laugh. Armed with a joke or a story to tell, she filled any room with her energy. She also valued her time on her own, on long walks with one of her beloved dogs, or in the kitchen baking a tasty treat. She did this all with a flare for fashion. Throughout her 90 years, Barbara Mitchell embodied positivity and strength – a true role model for her family.

Barb is survived by her children Debbie Scholl (Bob) of Grand Bend and Mark Mitchell (Julie) of Stratford. Grandmother of Amy Scholl and Samantha Vandenberk (Mark) and great grandmother of Kaydence and Brooklyn.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hammond and the dedicated staff of Blue Water Rest home for their care and compassion over the last 3 years.

A family service will he held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 followed by interment at Avondale Cemetery. A celebration of life is planned for when we can gather post-pandemic. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Perth County, Alzheimer Society of Huron County or to Blue Water Rest Home through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
