One person arrested after gravestones vandalized at Avondale Cemetery

UPDATE: 12:20 P.M.

We’re learning more details about vandalism being caused at Avondale Cemetery.

Stratford Police say they received a complaint around 6:30 Friday morning about a naked male in the cemetery causing a disturbance and knocking over gravestones.

The caller indicated that the naked male appeared angry and was threatening to kill the complainant and a friend.

Just after 6:30, police located the male and placed him under arrest without incident.

He refused to identify himself, however, through the investigation, he was able to be identified as a 60-year-old male resident of Stratford, who is known to suffer from mental health problems and is believed to be the same male involved in the earlier call of a naked male running on Douro Street.

The man was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with Mischief Over $5000, Nudity – In a Public Place, and Obstruct Peace Officer.

He has a court appearance scheduled for September 28th.
