Local officials calling for support to help address connectivity gaps in Southwestern Ontario

Local officials are calling on the provincial and federal governments to help address large connectivity gaps in Southwestern Ontario.

The Western Ontario Wardens Caucus says increased funding from both the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada is urgently needed to address the gaps so that the “digital divide” can be closed and economies can be restarted.

They say it will cost an estimated $1-billion to reduce the digital divide within the region and they’re asking for $254-million from Ottawa and $221-million from Ontario to help fix the issue.

Combined with a $174-million commitment from public-private partnerships, the caucus says it intends to successfully address the $1-billion Southwestern Ontario infrastructure deficit.
