Hazel Wivell

Hazel Elizabeth Wivell, age 86, of Stratford and formerly of Downie Township, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on September 21, 2020. Born in Ellice Township, daughter of the late Milton and Elizabeth Hartung.

 

Hazel worked beside her husband Bill on the family dairy farm until his death and later continued to work with her son Paul. She was also employed at the Martins Sports Centre for many years. She was involved with Stratford Culliton Hockey Booster Club and served as President. She was a life member of Downie Community Club and later spent many years volunteering at Stratford General Hospital Auxiliary where she held president position and was later presented honourary life member status.

 

Predeceased by her husband William Wivell (1981). Survived by her children Heather Smith (Frank), Paul Wivell, Peter Wivell (Zara). Grandmother of Kathleen Durfy (James), Ryan Smith (Christine), Kaitlyn Wivell, Stephanie Wivell (Tyler Maloney), Jakob Wivell, and great grandmother of Colin, Evan, Nathan, Sydney, Hannah. She will be remembered by her lifelong friend and companion Tom White and his family Joyce, Rob, Janet, and Ron. Also survived by a niece Linda Wilkerson.

 

Predeceased by sister-in-law Marguerite Symons (Jack) and brother-in-law Norman Wivell.

 

Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Wednesday, September 23, from 6-9 p.m. A private funeral service will be held on Thursday with interment at Avondale Cemetery.
