COVID-19 vaccines starting to be distributed to area long-term care residents

Residents of long-term care homes in Huron Perth are rolling up their sleeves to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

However, Huron Perth Public Health officials say the vaccines come as COVID-19 cases continue to be high locally and Ontario is at a critical point.

HPPH reported 28 new cases of the virus in the area on Thursday with 20 of them in North Perth.

Fifteen residents at Caressant Care Nursing Home in North Perth have tested positive for the virus.

Of the remaining new cases, one is in West Perth and one is in St.Marys with the rest in Huron County.

There are currently 100 active cases in the region.

There have been 950 cases in our area since the start of the pandemic with 825 recovered.

The death toll remains at 25.
