Mary Sophia White, age 104, passed away peacefully at Cedarcroft Place, Stratford on December 13, 2013 with loved ones at her side. Mary was born in Downie Township, October 2, 1909, a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Douglas. She was a faithful member of Avonton Presbyterian Church. Mary had received a 75 year volunteer award with the Avonton Woman’s Institute and loved knitting for various organizations over the years. She loved family gatherings and had a passion for a good game of euchre. Beloved wife of the late Wallace White who predeceased her December 22, 1975. Loving mother of Thomas (friend Hazel), David (Brenda), Marybelle McNear (Jim), John White, Evelyn Finnie (Robert). Grandmother of Joyce Doupe (Kevin), Robert White, Janet Norton (Chris), Ronald White (Julie), Mark White (Lynn), Amy Doherty (Sean), Janine Winkler (Nathan), Colin McNear (Melissa), Jennifer White (Kyle), Amanda White (Chris), Jacquie Brown (Jay), Kate Finnie (Mike), Darryl White (Carolyn). Also survived by numerous great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law Donna White, a sister-in-law Audrey Douglas and many nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son Douglas White, a daughter-in-law Blanche White and brothers and sisters Margaret Richardson (Karl), Robert Douglas, Dorothy Jordan (Frank) and Jean Spearin (Jim). Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, December 15th, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Catherine Calkin officiating. Spring interment in Avonbank Cemetery.
